Ahyan Performed as Chitah in "Chitah and Sloth"

Ahyan appeared in a stage performance last week (14th December) at Niles acting in name character as Chitah in "Chitah and Sloth". Here is the video that Shusmtia recorded from flip.Earlier last month, Ahyan got the award from his class for his Organization skills. He missed on citizenship awards and best attendance awards though. His teacher Mr. Moore was telling in most of the departments he is really good and in couple of points he needs to work out. For example, if she asks him to straighten the body, he sometimes still stays relaxed or crossed legs etc.

Finally Ahyan started his Kindergarten school 29th august just before the Eid day. As he is in waiting list for Parkmont school, he got admitted to Cabrillo Elementary School for now. I guess he will need to study here for a year before he can move to Parkmont.

Ahyan gave mathaye pani today for the first time ever. He did not have baba with him to hold him tight. He was extremely courageous to give shampoo also.... I am so proud of him as he conquered his fear of mathaye pani.

Ahyan Enjoying Snow In New York

The eve of last year and the whole new year 2011 so far, I have been occupied with my daughter Suhaila and shopping with Ammu for my brother Rasel's marriage. I used my second week of paternity leave from office to visit my Uncle, Aunt and cousins in New York as well as send my Mom to Dhaka with my friend Paul. As a bonus we got snow, lots and lots of snow and snowfall in New York! In that sense this trip during 11th January to 17th January was a highly successful one.

Ezaz dropped us in San Francisco Airport early morning so that we could catch our Delta Airlines flight at 8:30 AM on time. Kakku received us in JFK airport, New York. in the evening. That very night there was continuous snow fall that we watched over the window and enjoyed. As usual Abir, Asif, Roton, Kakku and Aunt were highly delighted to see Ahyan and Suhaila. The next day morning I and Ahyan got down in front of Kakku's house to help him clean snows and take some pictures during that time. I went to Paul's house, Jackson Heights, Jamaica, met with Ullash - freely roaming around the streets of New York. Because due to heavy cold and low temparature Ammu, Shusmita, Ahyan or Suhaila couldn't get out of the house much except when we went to Long Island in Dali Aunt house for a dinner invitation. 15th January, Saturday morning Ammu went to Dhaka with Paul and his family from JFK in Emirates. Despite Ammu's recent pain in the leg, she refused to take wheel chair assistance. That same day we went to Nandita's house where Sangita and Beatris were also there to spend time with us. Before coming back to New York, I purchased 2 luggage and filed them with books from Muktodhara of Jackson Heights and all sorts of food from Jamaica. The foods that were outstanding - Sagor Kachchi Biriyani and sweets, Ghoroa Kachchi and Muglai Porota, Pran Mango Juice, various achar and sauces, bhorta, Vapa pitha, Chitoi pitha, Patishapta pitha etc.

We reached back to San Francisco, the next day by JetBlue airport. Dhanad just came from Bangladesh the same day morning. He got healthier as when I last saw him Dhaka, he was as thin as me. Amin and Sumit Bhai picked us from aiport. IN the evening we had a big gathering/party in house as many of our friends with their family paid a visit to us - Ezaz, Shahriar, Sumit Bhai, Amin, Ashfaq, Hasinur.

Ahyan's First Swimming Class In American Swimming Academy

Yesterday we took Ahyan to his first swimming class at American Swimming Academy in Fremont. He was initially very happy to wear his new swimming costume but as soon as Shusmita took him near the swimming pool, he started crying. It took a while before she could hand over Ahyan to the swimming instructor. He was crying like "baba, baba, I want baba...".

But it looked very interesting when he was getting carried all around the swimming pool by his instructor. Looks like he will cry the next week as well but ultimately will get over it within the course of 12 classes.

ahyan down with bronchitis and ear infection

My poor little boy is down with bronchitis and is on antibiotics for a week. He had a check with his favorite dr.Linda Chan. He lost soo much he weighs 32.6 lbs. He had extremely high feer, going as high as 104. Poor thing looking like a keklash, after a hair cut and sickness

He missed his first swimming class, and school for nearly a week.

Summer Starting

Today you are approximately 1year and 5 months. Really fun age actually.

As the summer approaches, ahyan is hating to wear shorts and go out of the house. He is saying, "mommy i m not ready yet."

I have not written often which I should have. MOmmy has been too busy and engrossed in her own life to document more things. Now as she started blogging herself, she should have more time.

He was asked, yesterday, by Asha chachi, whether he wants or a little brother or sister. And the answer was, he wants a little brother and a sister tooo.

The whole day was spent, without missing mommy at Asha Chachi's house where baba is helping out wali chachhu.

We are going to start swimming lessons on Friday, God knows wats goin to happen, considering he is sooooooo scared of water.

Avatar The Movie: I Think It Will Cross Billion Dollar Revenue

Last weekend I saw James Cameron's sci-fi movie Avatar with my friends and family at San Jose 3D Imax Theater. It was fantastic enough to go beyond my expectation! Even before the movie was released, I read about it online to know that James Cameron wrote the initial script for this movie at 1994 (15 years back) but only could release now because he was not satisfied with the then-technology to support his imaginations to bring into the film properly. He in fact invented a Fusion Camera System so that he can capture 95% of an actor's facial expression to it's computer character counterpart. James Cameron already is very selective in movie direction (only 5 so far) and made the highest revenue generating movie of all time Titanic (1.86 billion USD). I was in the opinion that Avatar will cross 1 billion dollar revenue; it's official production cost is $237 million (excluding approx. $150 million marketing cost). Let's see if it crosses my expectation in terms of revenue as well. In fact I see a very potential for it to cross even Titanic's revenue and touch 2 billion revenue worldwide for the first time in box office record history.

I liked the story, the acting, the camera work, special effects, sound everything. I specially liked how the director slowly took all the audience to Pandora's side and how the the hero Jake slowly adapted himself in Pandora and proved himself as a great warrior. Ahyan was first half an hour very scared of the sound and idn't use the 3D glass. But later he got comfortable and watched the movie. Shusmita, Amin, Hasinur. Prakash all were of the opinion that it was a good movie. The question is how good it was - just good, very good or excellent? Well for me it's simply outstanding and unimaginable! You have to see it in 3D IMAX, otherwise you will miss half of the movie's charm. It's the best cinematic experience that you can ever have and surpasses what we saw in 2012 a few weeks ago.

I had a few winter parties last few days. First it was in Nitol's party at San Jose Tech Museum. Then we went to Ahyan's school's winter party. And at last the Salesforce holiday party at Concourse Exhibition Center, San Francisco.

Ahyan Zaman and Peacock Zaman

A week earlier when I was working at office before lunch, I got an email from Shusmita with a picture of a peacock. She was telling that this peacock is walking around in our patio.I was so surprised and then at night when I reached home, I saw this big bird there resting in the railing beside the entrance of our door. It's beautiful and amazing. Ahyan was jumping up and down to show it to me. Shusmita later told me that it's a peahen and not a peacock. Ahyan already named it Peacock Zaman (as his name is Ahyan Zaman).

Shusmita called the Fremont Wild Animal Association and they seemed not bothered at all. They told that if the bird is not injured, they are not coming to pick it. The first day we gave her only rice. But the very next day, Shusmita did some googling and purchased wild animal food from Petco including dogfood and lettus. The peahen seems very happy and is with us since then. My freinds and colleagues came to see it and people are excited to see this beautiful bird just within a feet of distance. As our living room and patio is only separated by a glass door which can be opened if necessary, we always see it walking around, eating or sleeping.

Nitol went to Bangladesh to get married and hence we threw 2 parties at our house with 2 different circles to celebrate it.

Father's Night with Ahyan

I went to Father's Night in Montessori Children's Care in Fremont 2 days back. I came back from office early that day at 5:30 PM. It was interesting to see him trying to show me what he can do. He tried moving some small balls with spoon from one pot to another, tried putting some very small balls in a pot in specific places, tried moving plastic maccaroni's from one plate to another. But when it was turn for singing, he was standing beside me and not joining the other kids. Miss betsy (Ahyan's Teacher of Redwood class) told he normally sings everyday. I guess due to his ear pain, Ahyan is a little bit uncomfortable today.

An Amazing San Diego Trip

Last weekend of April was one of the fast ones when I, Shusmita and Ahyan went to a 3 day trip to San Diego. It was a great trip in all sense. We had a little more than one hour flight in United Airlines from San Francisco at 25th night. By the time I got a Toyota Avalon from Alamo and checked in Holiday Inn Quality Suites in San Diego it was almost 2 AM there. Here are some of the photos of the tour.

The first day (26th) we went to Sea World. We watched the Shamu show in the noon and again the late evening. I would not believe a Whale can show such kind of gymnastics with other whales and it's trainers if I would not see with my own eyes. We also saw the dolphin show, Elmo's 3D show and many other booths.

The second day we spent in San Diego Zoo and Wild Animal Park which are about 45 miles apart. As I had the 5 day unlimited entry ticket fro us, we didn't have to worry about the queue or any additional charges for bus tours etc. While the zoo was no suprise, I liked the Africa Safari in Wild Animal Park. Ahyan enjoyed the beasts watching so closely, specially the lions when we were no more than 20 feet far in open land separated only by a 10 feet deep trench. This kind if distance a man eater Royal Bengal Tiger can easily jump even taking hunts in their shoulder. But may be lions are not as string and clever as Royal Bengal Tigers and that's why even this 20 feet distance is safe enough. Jewel and Mumu came in our late in the evening and propose to go for a long drive to LA for dinner. We were in a mood to accept the wild idea and Jewel drove us to Swadesh in LA that took hours. By the time we were back it was around 3/4 in the early morning.

The 3rd day we went to Sea World again as we were convinced that it's the biggest attraction in our trip. We had dine with Samu for lunch where the whales were within our touching distance. We had to catch the late afternoon return flight to SFO to end what was one of our best trips ever.

Ahyans first hair cut on 11th april 2008

Ahyan was born 12th of october 2006. But his first ever hair cut was only couple of days back on the 11th of april 2008 friday around 3 o clock in the after noon. After he finished his lunch, me and deepthy were sitting down watching ahyan watching tv with all his concentration. And suddenly it struck me to cut his hair. So while ahyan was still sitting in the hair chair on the floor in the living room watching tv extremely intently, me and deepthy started cutting his hair. It was religiously a great day, thinking twice, as it was friday. i was just hoping he wud not start to jump up and down while i cut his hair. and half would b cut and rest not. Very uneven. But, I was surprised to c him sitting nicely like a good boy and watching tv while i finished. One more milestone covered.

How to Feed Ahayn

It has been quite a challenge to feed Ahyan regularly. After lots of experiement Shusmita found that Ahyan is quite obsessed with cartoons, ads in TV that make interesting noises, dances etc. So we ended up recording Sesame Street/Elmo's shows that helped us a lot to feed him. Somehow it doesn't work always. Last few days Ahyan had very high fever with shakings and we had to take him to emergency as well . After ex-ray, blood test, anti-biotic injections we could bring him back home. We figured out that some cartoon videos in YouTube are working fine to feed Ahayn in this sensitive time. The above one is one of his favorites. Some others are mentioned below.

First Birthday of Ahyan

Ahyan's first birthday went 12th of this month. Due to Eid-ul-Azha at 13th of this month, we celebrated the party at the following weekend at 20th October. Around 65 guests came in Chandni Restaurant in Newark. We booked the hall's one portion from noon to 4 PM. All the invitations were mostly maintained by evite. The birthday theme was Finding Nemo and all the baloons, table cloths, goody bag and the wonderful tiramisu cake wre decorated with this theme. Ahyan got som many beautiful gifts and love from all. We missed my friends and relatives back home in Bangladesh. This is the irony of living abroad that even happiest moments are touched with sadness.

Ahyans 1st swim and potty work

Today for the first time Ahyan went in the big swimming pool and was swimming... he does it a lot better than his mom... and he loved it to the fullest. He did not want to get out of the pool. He had Aiden (1 yr old) who showed him the way. I hope to take him soon and learn swimming myself before the winter comes in ....

He also pooped in his potty sit for the first time today... I dont think he realised what he did... He was making face and I immediately put him on the sit and he did it for the first time after his breakfast. I tried during the lunch time but unfortunately he did what he had to already in his diaper..

He is now cruising around and last sunday he got beaten up by safwan... though it did not bother him but he looked a safwan for a while and just slapped him straight on his face. Even today it was the same, safwan pulled his hair but thank god he did not reply.

Ahyan now interacts so intelligently. It's an old news that he claps when you ask him to do so by saying tai tai tai. But today he learnt to blow kisses if you show that motion to him.

Ahyan turned 9 months

On 12th of this month that is , june 2007, our dearest son turned 9 months...We went for a well check and he weighs 18lb 5 oz (8.3kg), height 2'5" (0.74cm), head circumference 17.52" (44.5cm). He dropped below the 25th percentile and is in the 20th percentile approximately.
He has two teeth

He can stand holding on things for a month.

He can sit for the last week

He is cruising too for a week.

He started with egg yolk today and tap water.

He is also now clapping his hands from 12h of june 2007

He waves his first bye bye to a lady in apt 166 where we went to see an exhibition with sabiha bhabi, tanzim and tasmiya...

I have not been keeping up to date as he keeps me on my toessssssssss.......

Time passed so quickly it did not hit me before but now... in 3 months he will be a year...

Its no more than 2 weeks that Ahyan got his first tooth followed by his second tooth within a few days. He is so restless now-a-days that he gets hurt every now and then. Specially as he stands holding the border of his fence (or cage should I say) and after a while if we dont hold the chance is he will fall back while jumping. But thanks to the carpet, he doesn't get too hurt to be worried. As of my writing now, he sat by himself from lied down position in carpet. My sweet little cute baby...

Ahyan got his US Passport

Today we recieved Ahyan's US Passport. It took almost 10 weeks while we heard earlier people used to get it in 2 to 4 weeks. Now we can plan for our Toronto trip to extend US visa and go for vacation to Bangladesh end of this. All Ahyan's grand parents, uncles, aunts are eagerly waiting to see him after all.

Ahyan's New Crib

Ahyan got a new crib today. Today is the first night he is sleeping in it. Its almost timely as he fell off his bed two days ago on 8th of may 2007...He was sleeping on the bed in the bedroom and his mom was in te kitchen working. Suddenly she heard a loud scream and ran to find him on the carpet between the bed and fan... OH!!!! HIS all so FAVORITE Fan...

She assumes it was for THAT FAN that he jumped as he has been doing frequently for the last couple of days.

Ahyan is 6 months old today

Today is 12 of April 2007, Ahyan is exactly 6 months old. He started having his three times meal. He had his breakfast at 9am, lunch at 12.30pm. His breakfast was carrots and rice cereal. For the first time he had meat as chicken with cereal for lunch.... He did not seem to complain about the meat at all.
It was also Aunty Archanas birthday, so Ahyan went and wished her and found Jay alll asleep

Hib shot and roll over

My big boy today rolled over from back to tummy at around 630pm. He did it twice till 7pm..Longing for more of his activities like anything

He got his HIB shots as it was not available earlier on 13th when we went for other shots. We saw Dr. Lee and she suggested to feed him vegetables first. SO probably tomorrow he will have his vegies.

Today for the first time he had his rice made at home....

Today Ahyan baby had his first taste of solid food with very squishy and mushy 2/3 of a banana. We went downstairs so that Archana and Jai could see him eating and also so that aunty could help me out.
He seemed to have loved it as his mummy used to love it when she was very young.

Yesterday he had his second shots. He saw dr Hari as Dr latha was not there. Probably we will change to Dr. Lee soon. He weighed 13 pounds and 1/2 ounce, with a height of ...... and head circumference of .......

As he crossed the 13 pound mark he got to start solid food and we will probably start with banana today when aunty comes in... Ashik cant wait when ahyan wud start to eat shabu so he can join too.

4 month birthday

His fourth month bthday just got over in about 7 minutes ago on 12th of february 2007
Mental milestones he seemed to have achieved:
-kind of recognizes people and strangers as he started cryin after seeing liju after 3 weeks. Knows me veryyyyyyyyyy welll and also recognizes my voice. He can feel the intensities in voices...

Physical milestones he seemed to have achieved
-He turned once again yesterday from tummy to back.
-last couple of days he can grab his feet with his hand.
-he can hold his head high up on tummy
-he pushes himself being on tummy and unfortunately moves backward .... he need side view mirror for goin reverse
-He laughs with loud giggly noise from time to time... at times when aunty calls him a "vilent man"
- He can reach and grab things on the back
-last couple of days he has been lifting his head up even when he is on his bouncer...

I so have to video record allllll these....

Tomorrow he is getting his shots for four months... probably four of them... His old pedeatrician could not be found ..Dr Latha... so we will be seeing dr. Hari puri.... Aunty downstairs is also going with us...

Turned for the first time

He turned from being on tummy to back while having his daily oil massage. He can now grab things and has a very focused look.

His grandmother and grandfather (Ashiks Uncle) came from NY with tgheir family to see him. So he meet his FOLKS (relatives) for the first time last saturday on 20th of Januray.

We went to alcatraz island altogether on Sunday. He met AL CAPONE :). For the first time both for him and mummy dearest.

Days are getting mroe and more eventful, which our watchful eyes are on the bundle of joy hungry to catch glimpse of the next milestone he achieves.

Cant wait to see him eating from his hand. He used sippy cup and spoon yesterday for the first time. Did not complain much but got impatient with the sippy cup at the end so i introduced spoon. He could have had 5 ounces of milk from a bottle in the same time he hardly 2ounces from the cup.

I left him alone away from me for the first time with the aunt and went with ashik for groceries. he was hungry and aunty feed him the bottle i left him. I was sitting in the front seat after 3 months. eveything seemed to b closer from the front seat

My little ANGEL wears his first shoes

My little angel wore his first little blue shoe in his little little feet for a little little time (2 hrs) in the evening to visit a little little friend (Jai) downstairs.

He has been quite cranky so aunty downstairs gave him a little colic medicine. Still he was colicy... he has like dat last couple days even though poo poo made it way out everyday for my little little angel

My Baby has achieved the grabbing milestone

Today my smart boy (Alhamdulillah and InshaAllah) grabbed his red pacifier with his both hands and inserted it in his mouth, thats one of the milestone babies achieve in 3 months.

He wore the overall faria gave him on occassion of his birth. A horizontally blue striped on white, with white collar with All Star written in red.

He seems to b a bit cranky as he is growing from time to time... I wish i knew what my baby is trying to say...

Yesterday we did a lot of shopping for my pie from Babys R Us. Got couple of full sleeve shirts and pants and even shoes... They are really amazing. I want his papa to wear simlar clothes when we have the party when kakku arrives.....

Doctors appointment on on 6th of JAN 07

We saw Dr. Latha that day and found everything is normal Alhamdulillah. He now weighs 11pound 4 ounces. Last time on 15 on dec 06 he weighed 10pounds 8ounces.
Therefore he aproximately gained around 12 ounces in 21days that is less then half an ounce per day.

first loud giggly laugh

yesterday was ahyans first loud giggly laugh in da afternoon at 4pm while we were waitin for ymi's family.
He even gave one of those today. Its like those night queen only difference is it blooms once a year while ahyans giggle for now is once a day. But I guess it brings even a greater joyous feeling then the nightqueen blooming.
InshaAllah I will hear the giggles all day long of my sweety pie baby soon.
Looking forward for those days.

First New Year 2007

Happy New Year to all for the first time from Ahyan Zaman. This is ahyans first new year celebration.

Interestingly it coincided with Eid-ul-Adha on 31st Dec, 2006. That was also Ahyans first Eid celebration as the last Eid was a total disaster when he was only 8 days old. The last Eid we went to his doctor and also mine and none of them brought good news for us. It was one of the worst days of my life.

But this Eid we had Mir and his family comin in and having breakfast with us, liju had lunch, kathy and preston visited us in the afernoon, downstair's aunty and rahmat bhai and his family came in the evening, later faria and zeeshan bhai with family came in at night, and last but the not the least mir and family had dinner with us to finish the day. It felt like eid not still not Qurbani eid bcoz there was no rush of the meat and alll ...I missed dat a lot... We tried callin bangladesh spoke to ahyans dadabhai and dadimoni and mejho chacha. Also his nanabhai, antamoni and as it was cutting out, nanumoni the today.

Today we woke up early but was being lazy so got out of bed at 11, went to rohmot bhai place for lunch and while on the way dropped in at safwans place to drop some food off as they came from texas after a holiday....
Then we went to zeeshan bhais place where they held a open house meet few other familys..Amy, Nadia and auny apu was there.
After that we picked up ahyans stroller and picked liju uncle up to go to Elizabeth park but papa forgot where it was so we pin pointed the place today and will probably visit it next weekend. It was dark and cold so when we got there we did not get out of the car except for papa and liju uncle.

Later we went to broadway cafe, its a really nice classic coffee shop, with old architectural touch. It has a 24 hrs internet service, a small library, pacman playing machine, and table with chess board designed and ofcourse cofee, tea and bakery stuff.

Then we just came home and got dinner for papa from bombay garden and for myself from dennys. Its all bcoz i just didnt want to walk in to the kitchen after all day stay there yesterday....

It was a nice eid... Alhamdulillah a proper eid for the first time for Ahyan and for us, first time in America. Missed the families and friends back home though. We did it the best we could i suppose...

New years resolution... well one of them definitely will b to get into the prayers routine myself and for papa
